concrete Old garage removed New concrete bases How to do a Concrete Base A solid concrete base is a necessary requirement for any of our structures to be erected upon (paving slab or tarmac is not suitable). The base needs to be at least 3" (75mm) wider and 3" (75mm) longer on each side then the external size of your structure. The thickness of concrete must be a minimum of 4" thick. the complete base must also be Absolutely level & flat. e.g: 8'5" wide x 16' 3" lenght structure would require a base of 8'11" wide x 16'9" lenght. How to ensure of a flat ,level & square base Mark out the proposed site with pegs before making your frame of shuttering. to ensure of a square base use the 3'-4'-5' triangle method Make your timber frame ensuring that the corners are square and the height is level Dig out within the frame to a deph of 4"- 5" put down a ploythene membrane in side of frame Fill with minimum of 4"- 5" thickness of concrete, we recommend that a re-in forcing mesh is added at this point(A142" grade fabric mesh) tread this down below the surface of the concrete base re level concrete ensure it is absolutely level A suitable mix is 1 part cement, 2.5 part sand & 4 part aggregate Allow concrete to set then remove frame and pegs if at all possible.
